Half Way

It’s official, I am half way through P90X! Today’s workout was nothing different than the rest. Still focusing on getting my form as close to perfect as possible. I am also upping my reps and weights from the last time, so there is a steady progression. Still trying to shed a few extra pounds, however I am on the fence about doing Cardio tonight. I guess we will see.

Looking back, it is hard to believe I started this 46 days ago. Time has just shot by. Looking in the mirror, I do see a difference and I feel a lot better. Tonight I will be stopping by the Vitamin Shoppe to check out Flackseed. It is supposed to help “clear things out” plus it has a lot of great amino acids. Considering the blend of Omega-3′s and Flackseed.

Still pressing play and bringing it as hard as I can.

I was looking for a quick and easy way to measure my body fat and body mass index. During my research I found Health O Meter’s Body Fat Scale at Wal-mart. This scale met all my requirements:

Body fat measurement

Body Mass Index

Ability to save profiles to measure progress (great for P90X)

Good price

Back-lit display for easy reading.

The scale also measure hydration levels and bone mass. While researching, I was reading a lot about how different products measure body fat% and the discrepancies with the different procedures. The most accurate type of measurement is water tank method. Most others, like Health O Meter’s, send an electric current from one foot through the body to the other foot. The fat in your body provides resistance. This resistance slows the current and your body fat% is calculated on this. That is why it is important to make sure you enter your proper height when setting up your profile. To ensure accuracy of the body fat% count I went to a nutritionist to get a reading. I then used this scale. The two numbers were very close to one another (25.5%).

Overall I am happy with the scale. I have my profile setup and I continue to save my measurements every couple of days at the same time. If you are looking for a good scale to help keep track of your numbers for P90X I would recommend this one.

Free Weights – Go to a Play it Again Sports or someplace where you can test out different weights. You want to find some that you can lift over your head with one hand as well as do curls. You may need to sets and one for curls and the other for overhead sets.

Yoga Mat – A cheap one from Wal-Mart is fine

Pull up bar – I use the doorway kind and got this from Wal-Mart

Pushup bar – These are crucial because it takes a lot of the strain off of your wrists. It will also give you wider range of motion for later in the routine to get maximum reps.

Lifting Gloves – During my second attempt at P90X I scraped the side of my thumb during the routine. I want to make sure my hands stay protected during my workouts. These also help with grip slips.

Heart Rate Monitor – Not crucial, but it helps ensure you are staying in the zone and keeping your heart rate.

Mixing Cup – A Blender Bottle or Mixing Bottle. Something you can easily mix up pre and post work out drinks

Weighted Gloves – These are great for Kenpo X or any other of the cardio exercises when you want a little extra work out. You can also where them when walking or jogging.

Chair – It can be a folding chair or a plastic chair. Anything you can use to steady yourself and use for support during the workouts.

Mirror (added 1/5/2009) – A mirror really helps ensure you are performing each routine as close to perfect as possible.

A lot of these items can be found at Wal-Mart. I have not used some of these things before, like the heart rate monitor. However, as I was researching the program and reading other’s story I came up with this list. Hopefully each item will help me achieve my goals.
