I am working my way through recovery week and enjoying it. This Friday I think I am going to breakdown and get the Power Blocks to start the next round. Until then, I have a lot more “Recovering” to do…

Kenpo X is a lot of fun and a great way to relieve stress. The routine is only as tough as you make it. If you want to dog it during the punches and kicks, your heart rate will never get up. However, if you are putting a little something into, you can get a lot of it. I was very happy with my workout today and this evening I am planning on doing a couple mile run with 30 minutes on the exercise bike. Gotta shed as much weight as I can for the weigh in at work tomorrow!

P90x’s Kenpo X is always a great workout. All the punching and kicking really make the time go back quick. Today was exceptionally good for me because I was able to keep my heart rate about 160 for pretty much the whole routine. Tony keeps you working even during the breaks!

One thing I would recommend for those looking to get a little bit more out of the workout is weighted gloves. Just make sure you get a decent pair that are comfortable and wont chaff your hands.

An Off Day

I don’t know what it was today, but I was way off this morning. My Kenpo routine was weak to say the least. My heart rate barely got above 160 for a majority of the workout. Previous times with this routine, I was constant 160 and above. Jumping jacks helped get it above 160, but I never sustained that rate.

For some reason I just felt really off today. I don’t know if the diet is wearing on me, or it’s something else. According to the Nutrition Guide, I am a Zone 2 diet, which is 2200 – 2400 calories. My daily meals are right around 2000 calories. So, I know I am doing well there. Tommorow is stretch and I am going to re-focus and re-group after today’s beat down.

One quick note, I was getting ready for the workout and I let the intro play. I thought this face Tony made is too funny. He looks crazy as hell!!

Recovery Week Continues

Just finished day 3 of recovery week, Kenpo X, and I am wondering when I start recovering…. With the weighted gloves and sneakers, I am sweating like mad and still working as hard as during the normal workouts. This of course is good, because I want to see results and the only way to do that is by shedding the goo. I know I would not be happy with a week of silent meditation mixed with X Stretch. So I will continue to push forward and ensure that I am moving and grooving with every workout.

I enjoy researching things before and while I do them. P90X is no exception. I did a lot of research before starting to ensure I had the proper supplements, food for dieting and all the necessary P90X equipment. As I continue with my P90x journey, I am staying active on a number of online communities focused on P90X, as well as nutrition and dieting. These online communities are a great way to share your story, pickup new tips and interact with fellow P90X’ers. I am also borrowing a lot of books from the library as well. My goal is to learn as much as I can so I make informed decisions and not harm my body with all of these new changes. So far, I am happy with these changes, even if it means a lot more work both physically and mentally.

Going to pound through Recovery Week and upgrade my weights on Friday. Saturday morning will be all about bringing it in round 2.

Today I had to modify my typical workout time for Kenpo. I have added two additional workout days a week for the next 5 weeks. It is part of a competition that involves teams loosing the most amount of weight. So I didn’t want to workout in the morning and then weight in. This pushed my Kenpo routine back to the evening. It was the first time working out in the evening and everything was OK. I did my pre-work out drink, got a good routine in and then finished with my usual shake and a good dinner.

Heart rate was up the entire workout. It dropped below 160 for a few seconds. Jumping jacks did help get it right back up. Finishing up the last round of Kenpo, I thought I had the routine nailed. However, working on twisting your hips with the punches is something that I need to work on. Overall, I am happy with day 20. Looking forward to my recovery week!

Kick and Punch and Repeat

After 55 minutes of kicking and punching I am ready to take on the day! I felt great after this routine and realized how much I am starting to enjoy the P90X program. My shoulders and lower back are sore, however I am happy. Right after the workout while I am going through my morning I don’t really notice the soarness. However, once I get out of the car from my commute I notice the wear from the workout. My heart rate monitor and weighted gloves worked great. I was able to keep my heart rate between 160s and 170s. It never dropped below 158 which I am happy with. Also, my mirror really helped me focus my punches and gave me a great target

Needs Improvement

There are always sets that I notice I need improvement on. For Kenpo X it is the back kicks. I need to focus on looking back for every kick. I found myself cheating by watching my form in the mirror. I also gased out during one of the punch sets.

I have made it through all the P90X cardio workouts and I really enjoy them. They are a good change from the resistance routines. My diet still continues to be in flux. I know I am close to my goal of 20/30/50, however it is hard to get it just right. Fitday.com is a great resource that I encourage everyone to check out.

Also, I have been enjoying protein shakes after my work out this week. I have found the extra fruit and ice blended really taste good. Tommorow is rest day or X Stretch. Since I was lazy last week, I will be stretching tommorow.
