Today is the big day for my weigh in at work. My goal loss is 10 pounds and I have been working hard to meet that. According to the Recovery Week, I am supposed to do X Stretch today, however I am trying to burn as much as possible. So, I decided to add Plyometrics in. It was another solid round of Plyo and the heart rate was up. This added diet the last few weeks has been tough, but I am seeing results.

I can not wait to be done with Recovery Week. Day 60 is around the corner and Day 90 is not far beyond that.

I didn’t even realize I was beginning my second Recovery Week. I was planning a good resistance workout this morning until I reviewed the fitness guide. It is hard to believe I am in my 8th week of P90X. The time is just flying by. According to the guide, today should be Yoga X. However, Tuesday is my weight in at work and I want to loose as much as possible. So I will be modifying the schedule and doing a Plyo routine instead. Plus I did not have the mind set for 90 minutes of Yoga today.

Sweating, A LOT!

P90x’s Plyometrics is such a great workout! It is so easy to get the heart rate pumping and keeping it up the whole time. I really enjoy this program and feel great once I finish. Today was another solid day. I added my weighted gloves to get the extra burn. Nothing really worth noting during the workout. I am at the point of just pressing play and bringing it as hard as I can every day.

Upgrades

So, I am starting to think my weight upgrade process is hurting my progress. Instead of having the 30 lb weights available and trying them, I am just pushing hard with the 25s. The same is true for the rest of my different weights. Also, if I add another set of weights, I will start running out of room in my office. As such, I am thinking about getting either the Blowflex Selettechs or The Powerblocks. I am heading over to Dick’s Sporting Goods to evaluate each and make a decision.

So, I am off to the internet to look for coupons and then off to Dick’s.

In the 160’s

My target heart rate range is 130s – 170s with my high being 190s. Today I stayed in the 160s for the whole routine! I was stoked. During Kenpo last week I could barely get it into the 160 let alone sustain it. Today’s set of Plyo is exactly what I needed to get my confidence in the Cardio sets back.

My Pitch and Catch form during the Sports Bonus is too awful. So now I do squat jacks during this. I notice my heart rate really jumps during the squat jacks, so they are good substitution. I am very happy with today’s workout and ready for the next day.

One funny thing I had to comment on. During the warm up Tony is talking about the benefits of Plyo. He talks about being better at sports, stamina, etc. Today I picked up on something when he says “You want to perform better at everything?” The camera cut over to Pam while he was saying this and she totally gave the smirk picking up on what Tony was talking about. I love these little “human moments” during the workouts. It helps make it real. Any who, here is the smirk she gives him:

Plyo was a real burner today. This is the type of routine that can sneak up on you. It has been over 2 weeks since I did Plyometrics last, and I forgot how hard it is. I decided to wear my weighted gloves for the routine, not remembering it has been a while since I have gone through the workout. Well, I can tell I was sweating and breathing hard the whole time. My heart rate only went below 160 one tme! A few jumping jacks got it right back up.

I really enjoy the jump training routines, even if I did get nauseous a few times, but that is a good thing . I did note my Rock Star Hops need work as well as Jump Knee Tucks. One of my additional weekly exercises is playing basketball. Hopefully this additional exercise will help my endurance just like Plyo will hopefully help my basketball game.

Cardio Routines

I enjoy all the cardio workouts in P90X and Plyometrics is no exception. There is some lingering soreness in my chest and arms from yesterday’s Chest and Back workout. That being said, I continued to push it for Plyo today and decided to used my 2lb weighted gloves for the first time with this routine. Man, this is pushing it! By far, this was the most I perspired during any P90X exercise yet. Even though I was huffing and puffing, I felt great! I am embarrassed to admit that I do not know how to pitch a baseball. I can throw one no problem, but pitching is awkward if you have never done it. The pitching technique was a carry over from last weeks Plyo that I wanted to work on. I do believe I have the mechanics down now, but it is still a little weird.

Soreness

I have noticed some soreness in my lower spine when I wake up in the morning the last few days. It does not impact my ability to workout, it is just a little soar when I first get up. The different warm ups and stretching help get it ready to workout. Today I am going to do some research and figure out if it a technique issue or something else.

Overall, I am happy with today’s Plyometrics routine. I worked hard and my heart rate stayed in the 170s for almost the whole routine. It did drop to 160s a few times, but only for a few seconds. For the sports special, I really pushed it and tried to keep the heart rate in the 180s! What a way to finish a workout.

Finished Day 9 of P90X, Plyometrics and I am beat. I focused on perfecting each routine and I am really happy with my progress. The Swing Kicks over a chair and Jump Knee Tucks where real burners, especially when you start double timing it. I kept my heart rate above 160 the whole work out and stayed in 170 – 185 range for a majority of it! I did notice my rate drop during the Military March, however some quick running in place got me right back up. Having a mirror really helps to keep in the zone and it also helps if you don’t want to watch the clock count down for a routine, like hot foot.

For breakfeast I had another delicious shake and an easy omelet. With day 9 down, I am feeling good. I believe I have everything correct for my body, diet and personal schedule. Working out in the morning is great because it is cold out and I can close my office door and open the window to keep the room cool. It is also nice because I can get a good jump on the day and go into work wide awake and ready. I will be heading to Play it Again Sport today to get a heavier weight for Lawnmowers, etc. My goal is size, so I want a weight that makes the reps 6,7 and 8 tough.
