Leave it to Tony and the P90X program to make everything a workout, even stretching routines. Last week is took my rest day and did nothing. This week I was committed to doing the X Stretch. Ideally I would like to be more flexible. Be able to touch my toes during streching without even thinking about it or having to work for it. The X Stretch is a nice program because you are constantly moving from one position to the next. There are a number of Yoga X moves included in the routine which help break it up. The variation between static and ballistic moves is a nice change up as well.

Cutting it Short

Unfortunately I had to end my X Stretch early today because of an issue at work. This is extremely frustrating because I now wake up 2 hours earlier each day to work out. The last thing I want is working taking up that time as well as the rest of my day. Due to the fact that this workout was not as intense and the fact that I had to end early, I did not mix up as much Whey in my shake and I also cut back on my breakfast. However, I do plan on making up the rest of the routine tomorrow morning before my next routine.

Doing a Little More

Last night before bed I decided to crank out a set of push ups to see how many I could do. I was able to do 11 consecutive using the Perfect Push-up before having to take a rest set. At this point, I thought I would be able to do a few more than that. So before each workout I plan on doing push-ups and sit ups to try and get a little more work in. Maybe incorporate a few exercise from Ab Ripper X and vary it up with some different types of push ups.

Two things really effected me completing the Yoga X workout. First, I did not plan enough time. The entire workout is about 90 minutes. Waking up at 5:30 will hopefully help me with this. Second, Yoga X is hard! I have never done any type of yoga. I figured it would be a lot of meditation and internal self reconing. Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of that, plus some bad as core workouts.

Watching Tony and the others, I realized how far I need to go before I can get half of the maneuvers. I also had a hard time looking up at the TV to get the technique right, while I was on the ground contorting my body. To be honest, I gave it about 30 minutes before I had to stop and re-evaluate my Yoga future. I did fast forward to check out the rest of the workout, and the moves just got harder.

So, feeling defeated, I started reading other people’s opinion on the Yoga X workout. It is a given that Yoga is a great workout and really does help with coordination, core strength, etc. Fellow P90X’ers like, Coach Josh, say it is OK to substitute another cardio workout like Plyometrics. However, I am not going to give up on Yoga. It is good for me, and P90X is supposed to be a challenge. It is not “P90-Give-it-a-shot”, ITS P90X!
